An auction has been stopped early and shows no bids, but it had a bid earlier. Seller has item listed at a higher price. Is this wrong?

I was planning to bid on an item that already had one bid.  But the next time I looked, the auction had been stopped early and there were no bids showing.  The seller has the same item listed for about $25 more at Buy It Now.

Bids were cancelled. Look on the Bid History.

a seller can choose to end an item for multiple reasons,it appears thats what happened to you. Some sellers have brick and mortar stores too and if an item sells in their store they end the item because its no longer available.Hope this helps

So if I want the item I have no choice but to pay the higher price on Buy It Now.  This just seems really shady.

Thanks for your answers.

Seller listed the item at too low a price, panicked, cancelled the bids and ended the listing, then re-listed at the price he wanted.

Ebay charges the seller a final value fee for those cancellations, to discourage this sort of thing.

You are disappointed, but put yourself in the seller's place.  What would you have done?

What would I have done?  I would have honored my original commitment in pricing the item.

As an eBay seller, I have made mistakes in pricing and whatnot on occasion.  When that happens, I take responsibility for it.  That is what an good business person does.

had you placed that bid, you would have a complaint.

in this case the only person who has a reason to be unhappy is the bidder who had their bid canceled.

"planning to bid" gives you no standing in the pricing of an item.

however, this could prompt you to find that item from another seller.

had this happen to me this morning. I had placed a bid on item and seller canceled the listing using the item no longer available reason and then turned around and relisted same item at a higher price. I had always been under the impression that unless you had a legit reason (like the item really was no longer availble due to selling in store or finding out you no longer have it in stock) this type of action was not acceptable. I have had situations where this has happened, but never did a seller turn around and relist same item at higher price. I am very upset about this.
