Bidder bid same amount 11 times and won
Feb 10, 2013 07:37 PM

Hi I am a bit disgusted.  I had a high end item up for auction-- a jcrew leather bag.  There was alot of bidding activity and it just ended. The bidder that won bid the same amount 96.50, eleven times in a row.  I am happy with the price, but it seems like the person that bid 95.50 should get it. How can they keep bidding and bidding and bidding the same amount over and over and lock everyone else out like that?  I looked at her page and she is probably just going to post it for sale again. I underpriced it quite a bit I am finding out, but learned my lesson. Can I possibly let the 95.50 bid have the item? It just seems like the right thing to do.  What is with the mulitple bids in the same amount?  It seems like they should not be able to win that way.  Can I say "NO you cant have it???!! Are there rules against this multiple times same amount bidding??? There should be

They did not lock any bids out. It had no effect on the selling price.

If someone could lock up a server that easy ebay wouldn't be functional.  Her incessant bidding didn't lock anyone out, ebay's servers can handle that.  She won the bid.

>>> it seems like the person that bid 95.50 should get it<<<

That doesn't make one bit of sense. The winning bidder won it for $96.50. I'm sorry that you are disgusted for having to sell to the actual buyer, but that's how eBay works. Seller sells to rightful buyer.  Nobody can lock out other bidders.

They did not bid the same amount 11 times.

The first bid had to be one increment higher than the then showing price; the following bids had to be higher than that one, but not full increments higher than the previous bids, they could be $0.01 higher.

Until another bidder bid against them, the showing amount of their bids would not increase.

No one was locked out; all bidders were free to enter their bids.

You're just not understanding max bidding.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html

After reading that, click on the number of bids on the listing, that will take you to the bid history page to help explain.

First of all, it would be impossible  to keep entering the same amount over and over again, each bid she entered after the winning bid amount had to be another increment higher than her previous bid. Of course they all show up at the same  amount since no one outbid her. Obviously she was willing to pay a lot more for the bag if there had been others bidding against her, this is the way auctions are supposed to work.

She won the auction fair and square, nothing out of the way involved, if she pays, send her the item. your imagination is out of control.

Wish my fingers would pay closer attention to what I spell correctly.

I understand why the 96.50 bid is the fair winner.  I would like to understand why 96.50 shows up 11 times, why would the same amount keep showing up?  Obviously no one bid and drove it up from 96.50 to 96.50, so why is it showing up more than once... less yet 11 times.

Everytime a bidder places a bid it is recorded.

Unless no one else places a higher bid, the amount stays the same.

They are just placing bids in case someone comes along and places a higher bid.

Each bid a user places, is shown on the bid history.

Since your winner made 11 bids, they all are displayed.

Since no one bid against them, they will all show the same amount.

Reread maggie_kai's response.

You need to just back off from your disgust. This bidder bid increasing amounts, but since nobody cared enough to bid any higher than $95.50, this bidder won at $96.50.
