I would like to learn how to buy items inexpensive enough to resale them on ebay and make a profit. Would some successful sellers be so kind as to share how I can do this. I have been unemployed for over 16 years and need to make an income. I have been buying at thrift stores and yard sales but I am not making any money. Thanking you in advance for you help.

In order to buy wholesale in the USA you need the correct documentation for your state.

Business license (likely a fee)

Resale Tax ID (fee or not depends on your state) and/or Federal Tax ID/EIN (free)

Any company that does not require this documentation is not really selling wholesale.

To find true wholesalers really depends on what you want to sell. There are trade organizations that have trade and buying shows all over the country. There are permanent buying "marts" too.

Don't think you are going to be able to buy designer bags, high demand electronics etc. Companies like Coach and Apple have extremely demanding requirements for wholesale sales and a little eBay seller just starting out won't make that cut. Many big name brand companies won't sell to internet only retailers unless they are on the size of Amazon.....

For true wholesale, you will need thousands of dollars to secure the inventory and you will need a warehouse to store that inventory. Staff to manage that inventory and overhead associated with that inventory.

If you are considering dropshipping, do your homework. In the Answer Center search box, type dropship or dropshipping. There  was one responder a few months back that said they were very satisfied with the way it was working for them. The rest are horror stories of lost shipments, negative feedback, constant emails from customers, out of stock product, etc..

If there is a successful seller out there, they will not give you (and everyone else reading along) their secrets. Just as NIKE or STARBUCKS don't invite us all to their boardrooms, eBay sellers don't share their secrets either. You will have to research and to that legwork yourself. ;)

Allow me to repeat the warnings about using dropshippers.   If there is any problem, YOU get the negative feedback, but the dropshipper still gets their money.

You would also be in competition with the members who use dropshippers, and would have to sell at a price less than theirs in order to get orders.  That means you may not get any profit.

Re: real wholesalers.

As other responders stated, you would have to meet several qualifications in order to purchase at wholesale.  The biggest problem might be the required up-front money.

Suggestion:

Use your own interests and expertise to visit local flea markets and yard sales.  Try to get items other folks would want, and sell them on eBay at a profit.

I was a wholesale manufacturer's representative for almost ten years and it is NOT TRUE that you must spend tens of thousands of dollars and rent a warehouse to buy wholesale.

While it certainly varies with the merchandise and the wholesale company minimum orders can be found as low as a few hundred dollars....

I agree with the others though, Dropshippers and eBay are a very bad idea. Though some legit wholesalers do drop ship, most you find are not only, not wholesale, many others are using them and you'll end up suspended in no time due to lousy shipping records...
