I had been bidding on an item for several days and watching it. I had top bid but it said "reserve not met" I went on today to check on the item and it does not appear anywhere on any of my lists. Where did this item go? Should the seller contact me? Depending on the reserve I may pay that price. I was just trying to get the best deal possible. If he is not going to contact me I need to bid on another similar Item but I don't know how to contact him.

Did you get a bid cancellation message from ebay?

If so,check the seller's Completed items for that ended auction & details.

Its possible the seller ended the listing, or eBay pulled it.

So... find another seller.

Either the seller cancelled your bid or eBay pulled the listing due to a problem with the seller and/or the listing.

Copy and paste the item number (look for it on your bid confirmation email) into Advanced Search by Item Number.  If the item comes up, click on the # of bids (might be 0) and look down at the bottom of the resulting Bid History Page to see your cancellation (or look in the bids section to see if  your bid is still there, in which case there may be a problem with My eBay, or you may just have been looking too close to the end when the item was in the process of moving from "Bidding" to "Purchase History" or "Didn't Win").

If it comes up saying there is no such item # or it is unavailable, eBay pulled it.

And if your bid was high enough to meet the reserve, it would have done so immediately and the resulting "current bid" would have been the reserve amount.   Your bid was not high enough to meet the reserve, and if that was really your maximum the seller simply wanted more than you were willing to pay.
