buyer wants to pay by money order
Jun 24, 2012 11:08 PM

I just had a buyer win an auction from me,She than ask if she could pay by money order because she doesn't have a Paypal acct or any credit cards. She also has zero feedback.I told her I wasn't really comfortable with money orders but that I would give her a chance.I told I would send her item as soon as I received the M.O and once it cleared. Also that the M.O would need to be received within 6 days. Are M.O still being used by Ebay? All of my buyers just used Paypal so is ok to be paid with a money order?

Thanks for any imput I receive.....

Ebay's policy on money orders is sellers can't ask for mo's but can accept them if the buyer requests it.

Money orders are fine. In my opinion, they are better than Paypal payments. No paypal fees and no buyer disputes. In the future, you might want to agree to only USPS money orders. They can be cashed right at the post office so there's less chance they are counterfeit.

If you are willing to accept a Money order, (it should be a USPS money order) than that is between you and the buyer. The buyer requested it, so it is not against ebay policy.

The buyer will not have buyer protection, but if this auction ends as most ebay auctions do with a happy ending, then BP is not needed.

On the plus side for you, you get to keep the 2.9% paypal fee.

Don't ship until you have the money order and again it should be a USPS money order.

Good luck

the good thing about the USPS MO is you can send the item right away, there is no "clearing"....just take it to the PO and cash it and mail the item at the same time.
