You pay a penalty fee equal to the final value fee on the highest bid.  For most items, 9%.

You should make sure you have the listing correct before you submit it.

You will be charged the final value fees for the item based on the last bid you got. Ebay started this a few months ago to discourage sellers from doing exactly what you are asking about.

Why don't you want to sell your item? Isn't that the whole point of listing an item for sale on ebay??

< What happens if I end an item that has bids on it >

You have to cancel all the bids first, before you end the auction.  If you don't, then the highest bidder will be a winner.

You can not end this listing early because you have about 1 hour left... Listings with 12 hours or less can not be canceled .

If I were you

Ii would not list anything until you read all about selling and all the rules you have to follow .  Sounds like from your question that you did not even read some of the basic information that you agreed to read when you signed up for Ebay.

"I am a new seller, and not familiar with the ebay rules."

Please take time to read ALL of eBay's rules and policies before listing anything else.

eBay is a great place to sell your items IF you know all know all of the policies for both buyers and sellers.

Good luck.

Go to Customer Support and read everything regarding selling and re-read the User Agreement paying special attention to anything pertaining to selling.

New sellers are sometimes the targets of scammers because scammers rely on new seller's not reading the policies before trying to sell. They, the scammers, will dictate to the seller what they, the scammer, want. That is not how it works but if you've never read the policies for yourself, you may believe the scammers (as some many have) and find yourself a victim.

Even if you never encounter a scammer, you could encounter a clueless buyer and if neither one of you know how ebay works, the transaction could be a major headache.
