Can I send seller a money order if the system does not accept my visa billing address?
Jan 5, 2013 07:38 PM

Tried to pay with visa debit card but the system did not accept my billing address. Said it was invalid. It is valid. So the seller suggested I send a money order to pay for item. Is this okay?

You can send a USPS money order.

A buyer can offer to send a money order ; the seller is not supposed to ask for it.

Get your paypal account straightened out before you bid on more items, many sellers will not accept money orders.

Type your question into the input box, and click the 'search' button. This will answer 99% of all questions posted on this board. And "payed" is not the past tense of the verb 'to pay'.

What system? Did paypal reject your card? Something is very wrong here. Sure, you can send a money order but you will no longer be covered by the ebay buyer protection plan.

Give us more details, like the item number and did you use paypal so we can help you do this correctly.

Wish my fingers would pay closer attention to what I spell correctly.

It's ok, but only if the buyer suggests it. You will lose all of your buyer protection, however.

If the only issue is paypal is saying the address is invalid, it may be something simple. The USPS posts every address online for credit acceptance agencies to use. Are you SURE your address is the one that the post office says belongs at your address? If the street address name is off even a little, the paypal system will kick it out.

If you can't get it straightened out, I suggest that you buy a prepaid debit card and download the money to paypal. They are partnered with the Green dot system cards (sold at walmart, Kmart, etc). That way your buyer protection remains intact.

"the seller suggested I send a money order"

Sellers are not allowed to demand or suggest that buyers send paper payments or use other disallowed payment methods.

Mailing money orders is not allowed, except in certain categories.  It is allowed in person when the item is Local Pickup.

I suggest that you read the Accepted Payments Policy carefully.

Seller is in violation of policy by suggesting a money order.

Sending a money order will Void eBay Buyer Protection.

If the seller doesn't ship as advertised you are hosed. No help from eBay at all.

It can be very foolish to do this.

You should get your PayPal account squared away and use it to pay.

Often address problems are because of extra punctuation such as you typing St. instead of St or similar minor changes
