Can I start an eBay store for a non-profit organization?
Jul 27, 2012 07:46 PM

I work for a non-profit charitable organization that receives household goods from donations. We have several small electronic items, film cameras, small useable kitchen items, flatware, cutlery, linens (ALL PROPERLY DISINFECTED BY STATE OF OHIO REGULATIONS), other household necessities, artwork, and other "nick-knacks."

We have two (2) "Brick & Mortar" stores in Cleveland, Ohio and have been in business over 25 years. We work with several other charitable organizations in the area to help families, and individuals in need of household items;existing and returning Veterans, displaced persons and other indigents. Most of our staff are volunteers from all walks of life but we do have some employees, such as myself, that are paid a small salary without any benefits.

All items are inspected and determined if safe and useable prior to presentation for sale. We also carry furniture, NTSC, Cable Ready CTR TV's that need converter boxes, Washers and Dryers , but those items would only be available as "Local Pick-Up Only." We are located in Cleveland, Ohio.

All items would be small enough to ship via all shipping services available,(USPS, UPS, and FedEx.) The cost of the items to be auctioned will include the shipping cost.

Would eBay possibly help with costs associated to funding the eBay store?

A store not such a good idea to start as you will be subject to selling limits and holds.

Before even starting you NEED to read the required information about how eBay works, the rules and policies to sell here, the fees, and the USER AGREEMENT...which would have told you all of the above had you read it when you registered your account.

You are still a new seller on this account and are subject to the same so you should already be aware of the rules and polices here.

You also need to have all the correct legal designations 501(C)3 etc etc to sell here as a charitable organization.

And you are required to complete your transactions so that means you cannot sell items you have listed in the store while you have them listed here.

Why don't you just start selling a few items and feel your way around?   You don't need a store, and it would be a waste of money anyway in the beginning when you are limited as to how many items a month you can list.

What you do need is experience, and if you start in a small way you can gradually build up to whatever level you want.
