What happens to deadbeat buyers?

What happens to deadbeat buyers?
Nov 10, 2012 06:12 AM

A buyer won an auction, they failed to pay. I opened an claim, but the buyer still did not respond. After two aggravating weeks, I closed the claim and relisted my item. What consequences, if any, does the deadbeat buyer pay? I checked their rating, and they still have a 100% rating. It doesn't seem fair. I work hard as a seller to keep my rating, but I feel really unprotected from bad buyers, and have no recourse when I get one.

The consequences are far worse than a feedback score.

Sellers in the know have set their blocks to reject bids and buys from any member who has done this more than once in the past twelve months.

Result? The member can't buy anything from most sellers.

My ebay > account tab > site preferences > block buyers who...

You know why I don't worry?
I've been pall bearer to many friends, all of them worried!

When a UPI is closed with no payment, ebay issues that buyer a "strike"  After 2 strikes, that buyer will find it nearly impossible to bid/buy on ebay for one full year.  That is because smart sellers have their blocks in place to stop such buyers.  Setting your Buyer Requirements will really help keep deadbeats to a minimum............Ebay does not share whatever sanction they handed out, as per their privacy policies.

People need to STOP equating feedback with payment.  One has nothing to do with the other.  Buyers can ONLY receive positive feedback, no matter what.  Even if they could receive NEG feedback, that would NOT stop them from buying on ebay.....

Set your buyer requirements...........

eBay allows Buyers four days to pay and sends them automatic emails reminding them they need to pay. If they have not done so in those four days, you can open an Unpaid Item case against them. There is no need to wait two weeks to close the case. You can close it exactly 96 hours after it is open. You can then block that Buyer, relist your item and get your Final Value Fees credited to your account.

As the others said, set your Buyer blocks to block Buyers with two or more unpaid items in 12 months. In the Site Preferences where you set those blocks is an Activity Log. That log will show you all the Buyers who attempted to buy from you that were blocked. It's a very effective tool to protect you.

Once you have those blocks in place, you can check to see how well they are working. I check about once a month or so just to satisfy my curiosity and am ALWAYS surprised by how many bidders/buyers are blocked by having too many UPIs. May not be shock and awe, but it's very effective.

Follow this path:

- My eBay

- Account tab

- Site Preferences

- Buyer Requirements

- click on "Show"

- click on "Buyer Requirements Activity Log"
