Opened case but buyer cannot pay for item

Opened case but buyer cannot pay for item
Nov 20, 2012 09:13 AM

Two days ago, I opened a case against a buyer for non payment after two weeks.  Now, he emails me to say he cannot afford the item because he lost his job (even though I notice he has some postive feedback the last week on other purchases).  What should I do?  Should I close the case right away or wait until the four days?  If I close early, I think my only reason is that he has paid?  Then I won't be able to get my final fees back.  If the four days are up, he will have a mark on his record.  If he pays and wants a return, that's a mess I don't want either.

Just close it and get the man an unpaid strike.  As much as we may want to believe his story-the odds are he is lying.

Sorry, yes, you must wait the four more days before you close the dispute.

Since you can see that the buyer has made other very recent purchases I would let the UPI play out and close it after 4 full days.

Put that bidder on your blocked bidder list.

Should I respond to the buyer's email?  I normally would have cancelled the auction if the buyer had emailed me before the UPI and put him on my blocked list.

Unless you close the case as buyer not paid, the buyer can still leave feedback. The UPI prevents that.

It's up to you about responding. I wouldn't. You could not have cancelled the transaction on your own, you would need the buyer to agree, and if they didn't agree you would lose your final value fee credit, and the buyer could leave feedback.

Close the case when you can and protect the rest of us from the deadbeat bidder.

(And protect yourself from feedback and fees while you're at it.)

IGNORE the buyer (it's just a "my dog ate my homework" excuse -- the first of many you will receive in your eBay selling career)

BLOCK the buyer so they can not come back and put you through this again

WAIT a minimum of FOUR DAYS before you close the UPI (if you close too early, eBay will find in favor of the buyer)
