I am trying to find receipts for items purchased in 2009 for insurance purchases...... Is there any way to retrieve those?

Go to your paypal account - if that's how you paid.  It has all your purchases since day one.  You can filter it by dates, etc.

To expand on angelgirl's excellent suggestion,

I agree with the paypal search.

ebay only stores listings for 60 days.

E-bay saves all items purchased for a three year period. Go to "Purchases" and along side "current" will be archived. Click on the little circle alongside and there will be drop down menu with 2012,2011,2010. Select the year and all purchases for that year will come into view.

To clarify the responses:

If you need a receipt for insurance purposes for something you bought in 2009, then the only way to find the information now is in your PayPal account. You will need to change the time interval being shown, find the item in your list of transactions, and open the Transaction Details page. That has enough information to serve in place of a receipt, usually.

ebay keeps listings available on the website for 90 days (not just 60). But, after 60 days, you have to search for the item number or use a link to open the auction. You won't be able to find the item in your My eBay after 60 days, but you will be able to open it as long as it is still available on the website.

ebay does keep a list of your purchases available for 3 years, but once a purchase has been put into the archive section of the purchase history, you can't access the Order Details from the Purchase History list any more. It's the Order Details page that has enough information to serve as a receipt, and you can't view it any more once the item has been removed from the website.
