Sadly, Craigs list doesn"t have the best reputation, if this is an item you had on ONLY Craigs list I myself would ask that buyer to pay with a postal Money order, a lot of scammers will want to pay with paypal but need your paypal email address and that is half way to your paypal account. If this Craigs list buyer says no to a Post Office money order and doesn"t want to pay cash for a local pickup, then I wouldn"t sell. If this is a listed ebay item the sale has to go thru ebay. Better safe than sorry.

Advising you on how to conduct a transaction outside of eBay would be a board violation.

However you could ask on the  “ paypal forums “

You do NOT sell on eBay so this has nothing to do with off eBay transactions....although this is an eBay board and is for eBay related questions.

So you are really asking in the wrong place.

An off eBay transaction is when you have an item listed on eBay and try to sell it off eBay by not using the listing.

That is not the issue here or with your question.

While your question is totally unrelated to eBay at all.......

Yes PayPal can be used for pretty much an on-line transaction.

You have both buyer and seller protections for any transaction that is done using PayPal except for local pick-up transaction.

It is completely safe.

You can always call PayPal directly and they can explain it to you and you are/were required to read about PayPal and the policies for using PayPal when you registered your account there. They also provide all the information you are asking about. PayPal also has it's own forums where you can ask questions and get answers about PayPal related issues. Just go to the PayPal website.

CASH only for locally picked up items, sold on Craig's List or anywhere else

Never accept PayPal for a locally picked up item as you won't have online viewable proof of delivery.

PayPal does NOT require proof of deliver for local pick up items. Items that are shipped require proof of delivery.

Please read PayPal's policies.

Stating delivery confirmation is required for local pick up items is merely misinformation that keeps being repeated by some that refuse to read the actual policies.

And there is no buyer protection for local pick up items...so it doesn't matter how they pay as a dispute cannot be filed. Period.

13.3 Ineligible Items. PayPal Purchase Protection only applies to PayPal payments for certain tangible, physical goods. Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Purchase Protection:

Items which you collect in person or arrange to be collected on your behalf, including items bought through In-Store Checkout at the retail point of sale (unless bought using PayPal Grace Period, see Eligibility Requirements above)

Yes, that is the policy BUT buyers lie.

I have read too many posts by sellers over the years who had to refund for PayPal paid local pick ups because they could not prove the buyer picked up nor could they prove they shipped so they had to refund.

Better to be safe than sorry....
