What is a reasonable time span for a seller to initiate a Refund via Paypal?
Nov 11, 2012 04:16 AM

11/5/2012 email from seller indicated that a $5.00 refund to me would be done through PayPal.

I've checked my PayPal & credit card accounts.  Don't want to annoy the seller with another email, how many days should I allow before I do send a reminder?

If the seller promised a refund that didn't happen within 24 hours, I would ask about it. More than likely he has forgotten. Note that you only have 45 days from the transaction date to ask for help from ebay. Don't let the time expire. Nearly all sellers are honest. the few that are not can use delay tactics to keep from having to pay.

Refunds are instant and if going to the member's PayPal account it will show up immediately. If the refund is going to a credit card the transaction will still show in PayPal, but probably would not show up right away on your credit card statement.

If you are owed a refund then remind the seller again.

It is reasonable to expect a refund within 5 -7 days. At this point in time it would be adviseable to send a polite message asking the seller when you could expect to see the refund

One member pointed out you have 45 days of "Buyer Protection" which is correct. But, E-bay will never force a seller to refund partially. Was the $5 a full refund or partial?

Should the $5 refund be a partial refund, the seller doesn't refund and you open a case, E-bay's decision will be to return the item at your cost for a full refund. Should the time limit reach a point in time where you have to open, then you must also consider the risk involved

Partial refunds ARE supported as part of the returns process and SNAD cases.

It takes a seller less than five minutes to process a refund.

There is no reason to wait as long as you have.

Proof of the refund would show on your PayPal account immediately and also be reflected on your My eBay page and you'd get an email. Sometimes My eBay and emails are slow but PayPal always shows record of transactions in minutes.

The actual funds transfer may not be instant but you would know that the seller did it and see the status right away.

Credits do not just magically show up on your credit card statement or in your PayPal account.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/item-not-received.html#doesntmatch

Because the item doesn't match the seller's description, the seller may:

Offer you a partial refund to make up for the ways the item is different from the description

Ask that you return the item for a full refund

Ask that you return the item in exchange for a replacement item, if you agree

If you're offered a partial refund, you can accept it, request a different amount, or suggest another solution, like returning the item for a full refund.
