tab key does not work at sign in

For the past month or so I have had a problem with the tab key at sign in - I type in my user name and hit the tab key to get to the password slot and nothing happens, I have to use the mouse to get the cursor there. I have no problems with it anywhere else.

Does anyone have the answer?
